STUDENTS' COUNCIL
Gargi College is proud of its dynamic and vibrant Students' Council which, guided by the Faculty advisors, regularly organises cultural shows, dramas, talks and lecture-cum- demonstrations on music and dance. Reverie, an Intercollege cultural festival, is organised every year by us. You will find council to members to be extremely accessible, always ready to help you and answer every query of yours. The election to the Students' Council is
held every year in the month of February.
COLLEGE MAGAZINE & NEWSLETTERS
The college magazine Logos is for the students, by the students and of the students. You can actively participate by contributing an article or a poem or any other creative piece. If you show enough promise you might even be on the magazine's editorial team. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to showcase your literary and artistic abilities. Prizes are awarded for the Best Cover Design and Best Articles in English, Hindi and Sanskrit. Apart from the magazine, the students also bring out monthly newsletters, 'The Oracle' - the monthly newsletter of the Humanities and Social Sciences, 'Manthan'-History newsletter, 'Demos'-Political Science newsletter, 'Samanvay'-Psychology newsletter 'ComAscent' - Commerce newsletter and 'Eureka'- the mini Science Journal.
NATIONAL SPORTS ORGANISATION (NSO)
The Department of Physical Education organises coaching sessions in various games as well as provides an opportunity for students to play for competitions. Any student can take part
in sports and games and experience the feeling of pride and loyalty while representing the college in various tournaments. Representation of the University will help you gain admission
to higher education in the University, and enhance your chances while seeking employment.
NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)
The Gargi unit of the NCC offers training in leadership, flying, parachuting and other exciting adventurous activities. The NCC helps in inculcating self discipline and "Indianness". It also prompts you to think and act in the interest of the nation. You can see our cadets participating in national events. Last year, our cadets participated in Republic Day parade, the Prime Minister's Rally, a National Integration Camp and trekking expeditions. They also won prizes at a competition in Kamla Nehru College. Gargi offers much more than academics to you. You can take advantage of many social, recreational and athletic options besides attending the seminars, workshops and add-on courses.
GARGI EXTENSION SERVICE OR G.E.S. (GARGI'S NSS UNIT)
The GES was started with a vision to sensitize students to varied social issues and reach out to the community. It has a strong component aimed at developing leadership qualities in students
to bring about social change. We at Gargi, have built over the years, a strong ongoing relationship with the elderly from old age homes and differently abled children from government and
non- government organizations. The blood donation camp is a regular annual feature that evokes an enthusiastic response from students. We also facilitate the placements of students in different NGOs for social work. Our annual NGO Diwali Mela is attended by 25 to 30 participants to whom we provide free stalls. The profits from the stalls put up by students are donated to different social causes. GES also has several other year round activities like collection drives,
a weekly wall magazine and talks pertaining to different social issues. The GES is planning add-on course on 'Education for Peace Building' in the coming year.
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PROJECT
A project on Solid Waste Management sanctioned by the Delhi Government is being implemented in the college as well as its neighbourhood. The project is focused on the segregation of waste at all levels of composting, for use as a high-value fertilizer.
WOMEN'S DEVELOPMENT CENTRE
The WDC promotes a vibrant culture of women's empowerment and awareness of gender -related issues, both within Gargi College and in the larger community. Every year, the WDC organizers seminars and workshops, film screenings and discussions, as well as an inter-college event that focuses on a theme related to gender. The WDC is in a phase of rapid growth; its assets include a collection of books on gender studies and a multimedia research centre. The highlights of students' activities in 2006-07 were workshops on safety for women and peer counseling by Jagori and Breakthrough respectively, an inter-college event on 'Alternative Sexualities' and the launch of the WDC newsletter 'Ipsita'. On the anvil for the coming academic year are a range of discussions, field trips, community awareness programmes, seminars and competitions.
