Gargi College : UGC Certified College with Potential for Excellence

Gargi College, one of the two colleges in Delhi, to have been awarded the prestigious College with Potential for Excellence Grant by the University Grants Commission in the year 2004-2005, was chosen because of its holistic approach towards teaching and its excellent track record in academic and other aspects of college functioning. In its third year, nine departments namely Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology, Zoology, and the Women's Development Centre are engaged in effective innovation and experimentation in the undergraduate programme, using modern methods of learning and evaluation. They are promoting research at the undergraduate level and also effecting infrastructural changes. All of these programmes have effected tremendous value addition to the existing university curriculum, enhancing the quality of the teaching - learning process in the college.

Botany Department is establishing an Advanced Botanical Experimentation Facility. Chemistry Department is tackling Laboratory waste management as well as innovating alternate eco-friendly methods of inorganic qualitative analysis. Physics department is conducting a course on Computer Applications in Physical Sciences with the help of software. Psychology department is developing an intervention programme for youth and is engaged in creating a center for well-being for the college students. Zoology Department will introduce technology aided education with the help of a Digital Microscope and computer.		Commerce Department is conducting 2 Diploma courses. Elementary Education Department is establishing a Curriculum Laboratory and introducing several innovative programmes for the students. Microbiology Department has upgraded its laboratories . The Women’s Development Centre which concentrates on creating awareness on gender based issues has organized several programmes to promote women empowerment. All of these programmes will input tremendous value addition to the existing university curriculum thus enhancing the quality of the teaching –learning process in the college.
