NATIONAL SPORTS ORGANISATION (NSO) 

Physical fitness is an important impetus to women empowerment and participation in sports is its crown.  Hence the college strives to build sportswomen of class by providing professional training in athletics, basketball, chess, cricket, handball, volleyball, judo, table-tennis, lawn-tennis and yoga..  Tournaments are organized for faculty and the non-academic staff as well and all students are given a chance to engage in sporting events in the annual sports day.  Any student can take part in sports and games and experience the feeling of pride and loyalty while representing the college in various tournaments. Representation of the University will help you gain admission to higher education in the University, and enhance your chances while seeking employment.

 

ACHIEVEMENTS 2009-10:

In inter-college competitions the Judo team swept all Team Championships in all Judo Tournaments:  D. U. Inter College Judo Tournament, 3rd  Open Delhi State Judo Tournament, 30th  Delhi State U-20 Judo Tournament, 30th Delhi State Women Judo Tournament, Mata Sundri College Judo Tournament and LSR Sports Festival, which has been a record-breaking achievement. 

In other DU championships, the Chess team secured 2nd position, Athletics, Basketball, Cricket and Wrestling teams secured 3rd positions, the Tennis team the 4th position and the Cross Country team secured 5th position in Inter-College Cross Country Tournament. The chess team also stood first at Mulana Azad Medical College tournaments and third at LSR.

 

The following are some of our outstanding sportswomen:

Shelly Manral B.A. (Prog.) III yr, represented India in Asian indoor games held at Vietnam and won the bronze medal.  She won gold at DU in 63kg weight category, in the open category as well as best judoka.  She also won a gold medal in Kurash at the Asian Martial Arts Games held in Thailand. She represented Delhi University and won two silver medals in different weight categories.

Latika Sharma, B.A. (Prog.) I yr,  won Silver in the Open category at the World Championship in Kurash, Ukraine and Bronze medal at the Inter University Judo Championship. She also won gold at Delhi State Judo as well as Kurash championships. She won gold in Delhi University Wrestling championships and bronze at the inter-University championships.

Lovely Besoya, B.A. (Prog.) I yr won gold and silver in Delhi State Judo as well as Kurash Championships and gold in DU Wrestling championships.

Monica Menon B.A. (Prog.) III yr has been selected as a probable player for India at the 16th Asian Games in the discipline of Soft Tennis. Currently she is in the coaching camp for the same. She has also represented Delhi University in the North East Zone Inter University Tennis Tournament as Captain of Delhi team.

Ishita Bhatia B.A.(Hons.) Applied Psychology I yr, has also been selected as a probable player for India at the 16th Asian Games in the discipline of Soft Tennis. Currently she is in the coaching camp for the same.

Nisha Sharma, B.A. (Prog.) I yr obtained 1st Position in Junior State Cricket Tournament from Haryana.

Neha Sharma, B.A.(Prog.) III yr  was Best Batswoman and Woman of the Match at the Bharti Cup cricket tournaments.

Chandni Seth, B.Com.(Hons.) I yr. represented Delhi University in North East Zone Inter University Cricket Tournament.

Sahiba Marwaha, BBE III yr was Best bowler, Woman of the match at the Bharti Cup cricket Tournament and at the Winter Cricket Festival held at Dehradun.

Babita Negi B.Sc.(Prog.)  II yr represented DU and played in All India Nationals and All India T-20 matches.

Neha Sehrawat, B.A. (Prog.) I yr  and Sunaina Kanojia, B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany,  I yr and Yasmin B.A. (Prog.) III yr won several golds at Delhi State Judo Championships and a silver and bronze at Delhi state Kurash championships. P

ushpa Lakra, B.A.(Prog.) III  yr,  is an outstanding athlete.  She won Gold medal in 400 m. and was 4th  in 800 m at the Delhi University Athletics Competition, was best athlete at the LSR sports festival. She has also excelled in javelin throw and long jump. At the State Athletics competitions she won 2 silver medals.

Amulya Janardhan, B.Com.(Hons.) III yr,  Garima Rawat, B.A. (Prog.)  I yr,  Deepika Baisoya, B.A.(Prog.) Iyr. and Ipsita Roy, B.Sc.(Prog.) L.Sc.I yr ,  have all excelled in various athletic events of DU.  Dolly Meena, B.A. (Prog.) I yr has obtained  2nd and 3rd positions at Discus Throw and Shot put respectively at State level YMCA tournaments.

The above achievements are just a glimpse of the many laurels won by our students. All this reflects the immense dedication and perseverance of our associate professors in the department of physical education, and our various coaches.
