Innate talent ofthe students combined with guidance from professionals has helped theproduction of aesthetically splendid and socially sensitive items by eachsociety. Every year Reverie, the annual cultural inter-college extravaganza iscarried through with amazing gusto and efficiency by student union and thesocieties.The societies ofGargi College in year 2009 have performed very well and grabbed a number ofprizes at various college festivals. This is a result of all the hard work theyput in throughout the year and their dedication towards their society

Members of Nazaakat began their intensive training for their annual production GarbaDandiya from Lok Utsav. The piece they performed received lot of appreciationfrom judges as well as audience that too for their energy. Living up to thetradition of doing the 'unconventional, yet excelling at it', the choreographysociety once again made a mark this year with their piece Glass on the Edge.This piece was about the complexities of life and journey from a saferterritory to a riskier one with a repetitive pattern, which not only challengedthe body of the performers but also the audience's perception of dance. Streetplaysociety's play Boond portrayed the existence of water in life. Water isessential and is neglected. The play, in the first half shows the presentscenario focusing on the scarcity of water. Its misuse, its causes and implicationsare dealt with. The second half of the play shows that how water is a doubleedged tool which helps life and can also destroy it. The compering ofTeacher’s Day as well as of Inauguration of Reverie was well appreciated by oneand all. They participated and won in many competitions held in various colleges.A workshop was also organised with Anandana Kapoor, the acclaimed debater ofInternational level. QUIZZITO–The Quiz Society

The societymembers actively participated in various events at the University levelcompetitions and earned recognition for the college. GLASS-I --THEFILM CLUB
A retrospective on Satyajit Ray kick started the year with the screening of hisfamous Apu Trilogy–Pather Panchali, Aparijito, and Apur Sansar with an aim topay tribute to this classic director and acquaint the younger generation withhis oeuvre of craftsmanship. The second retrospective was on the world-renowneddirector, Wong Kar Wai with the screening ofChung King Express, In the Mood for Love and 2046. Screening of Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain (Oscar awardwinner) and Constant Gardner (Oscarnominated) garnered rave reviews. We screened Broken Flowers directed by JimTarmusch which is highly acclaimed in the American intellectual circles. We alsocommemorated the 39th death anniversary of Ché Guevera with the screening of Motorcycle Diaries. The closing ofthe session was with a retrospective on the Latin-American director, AlejandroGonazez. We also collaborated with other societies within Gargi College. Wescreened documentaries on 'Gender and Sexuality'produced and distributed by PSBT (Public ServiceBroadcasting Trust) during the WDC festival. During Literatti 2007, MicheleRadford’s Il Postino, a 1994 Italian film which tells the real lifestory of the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda and his relationship with a simplepostman who learns to love poetry, was screened. The response, on the whole,has been overwhelming from members both from within as well as outside Gargi.
