Vision and Mission

Vision

Political Science as an academic discipline has historically provided a strong foundation for interdisciplinary learning. It engages with diverse fields, including history, economics, sociology, law, and philosophy. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasises multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to education. The Department of Political Science fully endorses and actively supports this vision. We aspire to strengthen Political Science as a core domain of knowledge within higher education. We look forward to its inclusion not only as a domain subject in the newly structured CUET for Central Universities but also as a mandatory subject area within Research Methodology curricula. Through this, we aim to encourage multidimensional research and scholarship. We seek to nurture critical and analytical thinking among our students. We also aim to promote meaningful engagement with contemporary political, social, and global challenges. Overall, the Department envisions fostering intellectually rigorous scholarship and collaborative learning through sustained interdisciplinary dialogue and academic collaboration.

Mission

The Department of Political Science at Gargi College is dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of political systems, governance, public policy, and global affairs. We aim to nurture intellectual curiosity and critical engagement with political ideas, institutions, and processes. The Department creates an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and encourages respectful dialogue on political, social, and economic issues. We equip students with strong analytical and research skills, ethical awareness, and informed judgment, enabling them to make meaningful contributions to academia, public service, policy-making, and civic life. Through interdisciplinary learning, empirical research, and engagement with contemporary political challenges, we strive to cultivate critical thinking, multidimensional scholarship, and responsible citizenship grounded in democratic values.
