Upstage, The Dramatics Society of Gargi College, is dedicated to fostering creativity, expression, and artistic excellence through the medium of theatre. The society serves as a platform for students to explore various aspects of dramatic arts including acting, writing, direction, stage management, production, and performance. Bringing together passionate storytellers and performers. Upstage nurtures talent while creating a vibrant and inclusive space for artistic growth.

At Upstage, Theatre is viewed as a powerful medium of communication, awareness and self-discovery. Through workshops, rehearsals, productions, and collaborative projects members develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and creative thinking. The society encourages students to step beyond their comfort zones, experiment with new ideas and engage with meaningful narratives that resonate with diverse audience.

Our vision is to nurture a community and create a safe space for every artist for them to creatively soar and personally grow harnessing their enthusiasm for stagecraft, apart from individual development we also envision to inspire a lifelong love for theatre and cultivating a culture of artistic exploration and innovation, where every voice is valued. We create a platform for social change fostering an environment that is inclusive, diverse, and conscious of the world around us. We aim to break down societal barriers by encouraging diverse gender expression. We often celebrating the richness of human experience through our performances.

The society’s mission is not only to entertain but also to leverage theatre as a medium to reflect on society, challenge norms, provoke thought, evoke emotions and inspire change. We are committed to embracing diversity in all its forms, both, on and off the stage. Our mission is to bring together individuals from various backgrounds, cultures and identities to create performances that reflect the complex tapestry of society.

 

Throughout the year, Upstage actively participates in theatre festivals and competitions across institutions, providing members with opportunities to learn, perform, and represent Gargi College on various prestigious platforms. The society has consistently demonstrated excellence in both Stage Play and Mono Act categories, securing a total of 11 victories in theatre competitions. Notable achievements include performances and recognitions at institutions and platforms such as Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Chitkara University, Motilal Nehru College, Dayal Singh College, and Urban Fright at the Underground Stadium, Okhla. These accomplishments reflect the dedication, hard work, and passion of the members who continue to uphold the society’s legacy of excellence.

Beyond competitions and productions, Upstage proudly organizes Nivaccana- Gargi College’s annual theatre festival. The festival serves as a vibrant platform for artistic exchange, creativity, and collaboration, bringing together theatre enthusiasts and performers from various institutions.

A significant highlight of the year was the successful production of two Annual Productions under the mentorship of Mr. Yogesh Somi Bhatt. Expanding its artistic horizons, the society also introduced its first-ever Mime Production, exploring a new dimension of theatrical storytelling and performance.
