Society Activities
AVNI – The Eco Club of Gargi College actively organised a wide range of events and initiatives during the academic year 2025–2026, focusing on sustainability, environmental awareness, and student engagement. The activities aimed to encourage eco-conscious behaviour through creative, interactive, and informative platforms. From workshops and competitions to drives and awareness campaigns, each event contributed towards fostering a sense of responsibility among students for environmental conservation.
1. Best Out of Waste
The “Best Out of Waste” event was conducted on 6th August 2025 by AVNI – The Eco Club in collaboration with the Student Council. The competition encouraged participants to create innovative items using only discarded materials, promoting sustainable practices. It was conducted in two phases: creation and presentation. Students showcased creativity by transforming waste into useful and artistic products, followed by explanations of their concepts. The event emphasised the importance of recycling and mindful consumption. It successfully raised awareness about waste management while fostering innovation and environmental responsibility among participants.
2. Vriksha Bandhan
“Vriksha Bandhan” was organised on 11th August 2025 as an online initiative celebrating Raksha Bandhan with an eco-conscious approach. Participants created rakhis using biodegradable and recycled materials such as cardboard, leaves, and ribbons. These were tied to trees or plants, symbolizing protection and care for nature. Students shared photographs of their activities, reflecting creativity and environmental sensitivity. The event successfully combined cultural values with sustainability, encouraging participants to adopt eco-friendly practices during festivals. It highlighted the importance of nurturing nature and promoted a deeper emotional connection between individuals and the environment.
3. Orientation Session
The Orientation Session of AVNI -The Eco Club was held on 20th August 2025 to welcome new members. The session introduced the club’s vision, structure, and ongoing initiatives. Core team members outlined roles, responsibilities, and opportunities for participation. An interactive ice-breaking activity was conducted to foster engagement and team bonding among participants. The session set a positive and enthusiastic tone for the academic year, encouraging students to actively contribute to sustainability initiatives. Overall, it successfully motivated members to be a part of eco-conscious efforts and strengthened their commitment to environmental responsibility.
4. Ideathon Competition
The “Swachh Campus Ideathon” was organized on 27th August 2025 in collaboration with the Student Council under the theme “Think Green, Act Local.” The event encouraged students to propose innovative and practical solutions for maintaining campus cleanliness. Participants presented eco-friendly ideas addressing local environmental challenges. The competition highlighted the role of youth as change-makers and emphasized that impactful environmental action begins at the grassroots level. The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by participants reflected their awareness and commitment towards sustainability. The event successfully inspired students to take initiative in creating a cleaner and greener campus.
5. General Body Meeting
The General Body Meeting of AVNI was held on 3rd September 2025 to introduce the club’s vision and plans for the new tenure. The Union for 2025–2026, Editorial Board, and various eco teams were formally introduced. Members were informed about eco-credits, roles, and responsibilities within the club. The session included interactive discussions that encouraged participation and clarity regarding the club’s functioning. It concluded with an engaging activity, fostering enthusiasm and commitment among members. The meeting played a crucial role in strengthening coordination and aligning members with the club’s sustainability goals.
6. Sassy Sip BYOM
The “Sassy Sip BYOM” initiative was conducted from 10th to 17th September 2025 to promote the use of reusable mugs. Students were encouraged to bring their own eco-friendly cups to reduce dependence on disposable ones. Participants creatively showcased their mugs through aesthetic and engaging content, with the best entries featured on the club’s social media. The initiative aimed to make sustainability a lifestyle choice rather than a responsibility. It successfully raised awareness about reducing single-use plastics and encouraged students to adopt simple yet impactful eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.
7. Open Mic Session
An Open Mic Session was organized on 10th September 2025 on the theme “Single-Use Plastics & Our Planet.” The event provided a platform for students to express their views through poetry, rap, and spoken word. Participants presented thought-provoking and creative performances highlighting environmental concerns. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation and meaningful engagement. Each performance emphasized the urgency of addressing plastic pollution and climate change. The event effectively combined creativity with awareness, encouraging students to use their voice for environmental advocacy and inspiring collective responsibility towards sustainability.
8. Pass It On
“Pass It On” was conducted from 17th to 19th September 2025 in collaboration with the Gargi College Library. Based on the concept “Take One, Keep One,” the initiative promoted sharing and reuse of books and study materials. Students donated old books, novels, and unused sheets, and exchanged them with others. The event received an overwhelming response, reflecting the spirit of sustainability and knowledge sharing. It reduced waste while encouraging resource optimization. The initiative successfully fostered a culture of reuse and highlighted the importance of mindful consumption within the academic community.
9. Ozone Shield Memes
The “Ozone Shield Memes” event was held on 19th September 2025 to mark World Ozone Day. It was an online competition encouraging participants to create original memes conveying environmental messages in a humorous manner. The event attracted creative entries that effectively combined awareness with entertainment. It proved to be an engaging way to reach the youth and spread important information about ozone layer protection. The initiative highlighted how digital platforms can be used for environmental advocacy. Overall, it successfully promoted awareness while encouraging creative expression among participants.
10. Know the Bee
The “Know the Bee” workshop was organized on 25th September 2025 at Sunder Nursery. Organized in collaboration with relevant organizations, the workshop provided insights into beekeeping and the ecological importance of honeybees. Participants learned about bee farming techniques and the role of bees in pollination and biodiversity. The session was informative and interactive, offering hands-on exposure and expert guidance. It enhanced students’ understanding of ecological balance and conservation. The workshop was well-received and provided a unique learning experience, encouraging participants to appreciate and protect these vital pollinators.
11. Things and Tale
“Things and Tale” was organized on 1st October 2025 as a public speaking competition to promote environmental awareness through creativity. Participants were required to bring an eco-friendly item and deliver a 90-second speech from the object’s perspective. This unique format encouraged students to think critically about sustainability and develop empathy towards everyday items. The event emphasized originality and effective communication. Participants showcased innovative ideas and compelling narratives, highlighting environmental concerns. Overall, the activity successfully combined creativity with awareness, inspiring students to adopt sustainable practices and reflect on their relationship with the environment.
12. E-Waste Workshop
The E-Waste Workshop was conducted on 7th October 2025 on the occasion of Daan Utsav, in collaboration with multiple organizations. The session featured expert speakers who shared insights on e-waste management, responsible disposal, and the importance of recycling electronic waste. The workshop also encouraged volunteerism and active participation in sustainability initiatives. It concluded with an engaging street play performance that highlighted environmental issues effectively. The event successfully sensitized participants to the growing problem of e-waste and promoted responsible consumer behavior, making it both informative and impactful.
13. Diwali Events
The Diwali events were conducted across 13th to 16th, 15th to 17th, and 20th October 2025, focusing on celebrating the festival in an eco-friendly manner. Various activities were organized to promote sustainable practices and reduce environmental harm during festivities. Participants engaged in creative and awareness-based initiatives that emphasized minimizing waste and avoiding pollution. The events highlighted the importance of adopting greener alternatives during celebrations. Through enthusiastic participation, students demonstrated their commitment to responsible festivities. Overall, the initiative successfully encouraged an eco-conscious approach to Diwali while preserving its cultural significance.
14. Catch the Crackling Culprit
“Catch the Crackling Culprit” was organized on 15th October 2025 as an eco-themed mystery game during the festive season. The event involved participants taking on roles as detectives and suspects to solve clues and uncover the “culprit.” The activity incorporated riddles and environmental themes, making it both engaging and educational. It aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of firecrackers and promote eco-friendly celebrations. The event concluded with participants pledging to celebrate a greener Diwali. Overall, it effectively combined fun with awareness, encouraging responsible environmental behavior.
15. Eco Baithak
Eco Baithak was held on 29th October 2025 with the aim of promoting effective waste management practices among students. The session provided detailed information on composting, use of aerobins, and waste segregation within the campus. Participants were educated on the importance of proper disposal and sustainable waste handling. An interactive quiz was conducted to reinforce learning and enhance engagement. The session was informative and participatory, encouraging students to adopt responsible habits. Overall, the event successfully raised awareness about waste management and inspired students to contribute towards maintaining a cleaner environment.
16. Cleanliness Drive
The Cleanliness Drive was conducted on 12th November 2025 in collaboration with NSS Gargi. Volunteers actively participated in collecting litter from various areas of the college campus. The initiative aimed to promote cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and teamwork among students. Participants worked together to make the campus cleaner and more hygienic. The activity highlighted the importance of maintaining public spaces and encouraged individuals to take responsibility for their surroundings. 17. Repapyrus – Rebirth of Paper
The “Repapyrus – Rebirth of Paper” initiative was relaunched from 10th to 16th November 2025 to promote paper recycling and sustainable usage. The event focused on collecting used paper and encouraging its reuse through creative and practical methods. Participants were made aware of the environmental impact of paper waste and the importance of recycling. The initiative highlighted how small efforts can significantly reduce resource consumption. It successfully engaged students in sustainable practices and promoted responsible use of paper. Overall, the event reinforced the importance of reducing waste and conserving natural resources.
18. Plantation Drive with Kshitij
The Plantation Drive was conducted from 1st to 5th January in collaboration with Kshitij. The initiative aimed to promote afforestation and environmental conservation at the beginning of the year. Students actively participated in planting saplings and contributing to a greener campus. The drive emphasized the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change. It encouraged participants to take long-term responsibility for the plants they nurtured. 19. Plant & Compost Distribution
The Plant and Compost Distribution Drive was held on 7th and 8th January in collaboration with the Botanical Garden Committee. The event focused on promoting sustainable living through the distribution of plants and compost. Participants were educated about composting, waste segregation, and eco-friendly practices. The initiative witnessed active participation and encouraged students to adopt greener habits in their daily lives. It served as a practical step towards environmental conservation and awareness. 20. Eco-Nudge – Poster Making
“Eco-Nudge” Poster Making activity was conducted on 14th January to raise awareness about environmental issues, particularly energy conservation. Participants created innovative posters highlighting the importance of reducing energy consumption and adopting sustainable practices. The event encouraged creativity and critical thinking while addressing pressing environmental concerns. Students presented impactful visual messages that promoted responsible energy usage. 21. The Green Code – Treasure Hunt
“The Green Code” Treasure Hunt was organized on 21st January as an engaging eco-themed activity. Participants were divided into teams and guided through a series of clues, riddles, and tasks based on environmental concepts. The event promoted teamwork, problem-solving, and awareness about sustainability in a fun and interactive manner. Each stage of the hunt incorporated eco-related challenges, encouraging participants to think critically about environmental issues. The activity concluded with enthusiastic participation and memorable experiences. Overall, the event successfully blended learning with recreation, fostering collaboration and reinforcing the importance of environmental consciousness.
22. Natural Photography Activity
The Natural Photography Activity was conducted from 23rd to 28th February as an online competition celebrating nature’s beauty. Participants captured photographs of natural elements such as landscapes, birds, and sunsets. The activity provided a platform for students to express their creativity and appreciation for the environment. The submissions reflected diverse perspectives and artistic skills. Selected entries were recognized and considered for publication in the annual magazine. 23. Before It’s Gone: A Movie Hour
“Before It’s Gone: A Movie Hour” was organized on 25th February to raise awareness about environmental degradation through cinema. The screening of The Lorax highlighted issues such as deforestation, industrialization, and environmental responsibility. The session encouraged reflection and discussion among students regarding sustainable practices and individual responsibility. The film effectively conveyed the importance of protecting natural resources and inspired participants to adopt eco-conscious behavior. Overall, the event provided an engaging and thought-provoking learning experience, aligning with the club’s objective of promoting environmental awareness through creative mediums.
24. Poetry Writing
The Poetry Writing Competition was conducted from 27th February to 4th March to encourage creative expression on environmental themes. Participants were invited to compose poems reflecting their thoughts on nature, sustainability, and ecological concerns. The online format ensured wide participation and diverse submissions. The entries showcased emotional depth, creativity, and awareness regarding environmental issues. Selected poems were chosen for publication in the annual magazine. 25. Natural Color Making Activity
The Natural Color Making Activity was organized from 1st to 8th March to promote eco-friendly alternatives for festive celebrations. Participants were encouraged to prepare colors using natural ingredients, reducing dependence on chemical-based products. The activity aimed to raise awareness about the environmental and health impacts of synthetic colors. Students actively engaged in creating safe and sustainable colors, showcasing creativity and innovation. The initiative emphasized the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices during festivals. 26. Bird Watching Activity
The Bird Watching Activity was conducted on 16th March in collaboration with Ataavi Foundation under expert guidance. The session took place on the college campus and involved identifying various bird species using binoculars. Participants observed and documented around 25 species, gaining valuable knowledge about biodiversity and ecological balance. The activity was both educational and engaging, offering a unique outdoor learning experience. It enhanced awareness about the importance of protecting avian species and their habitats. 27. No Fire Cooking Competition
The “No Fire Cooking Competition” was held on 18th March with a focus on zero-waste and sustainable cooking practices. Participants were required to prepare dishes without using fire while ensuring minimal or no waste generation. The event encouraged creativity, resourcefulness, and awareness about sustainable food practices. Students presented innovative dishes that adhered to the guidelines. The competition highlighted the importance of reducing energy consumption and minimizing waste in daily activities. 28. The Ultimate Quest
“The Ultimate Quest” was organised on 25th March during Reverie as an interactive event focusing on environmental awareness. The activity involved multiple rounds that tested participants’ teamwork, decision-making, and strategic thinking. It began with an informative video on environmental destruction, setting the context for the challenges ahead. Each round presented scenarios based on real-life environmental issues. The event kept participants actively engaged while promoting critical thinking. Overall, it was an exciting and thought-provoking experience that reinforced the importance of responsible environmental choices.
29. Plastic Submission Saptah
The “Plastic Submission Saptah” was conducted from 30th March to 4th April to address plastic waste management. Students were encouraged to collect and submit plastic waste, promoting responsible disposal and recycling. The initiative aimed to reduce plastic pollution within the campus and spread awareness about its harmful effects. Participants actively contributed, reflecting a collective commitment towards sustainability. The event highlighted the importance of waste segregation and recycling practices. Overall, it was a significant step towards reducing environmental impact and fostering eco-friendly habits among students.
30. H.O.P.E.
“H.O.P.E.” was conducted on 6th April as a sustainability-focused initiative aimed at promoting eco-friendly practices through interactive learning. The event included activities such as paper recycling, cloth upcycling, and creation of sustainable products. Participants gained hands-on experience in transforming waste into useful items. The initiative emphasized the importance of reducing waste and adopting sustainable alternatives in daily life. It successfully combined learning with creativity, inspiring students to incorporate eco-conscious habits.
