The Ambedkar Study Centre for Social Justice and Empowerment of Gargi College, established on 14 April 2023, aims to popularise the thought and ideas of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar among the youth of contemporary times. One of the most important leaders of India, Dr Ambedkar, was a great nationalist, social thinker, political reformer, and philosophical writer with progressive ideas. The Study Centre intends to become a platform for research, debate, advancement and dissemination of knowledge about the teachings and writings of Dr Ambedkar by organizing a number of programmes and activities throughout the academic year.

Vision of Ambedkar Study Centre for Social Justice and Empowerment
The following is the vision of the Study Centre. “Develop as an arena where the academicians, scholars and institutions work together with the youth to realise the dream of Dr Ambedkar of a progressive India where power is redistributed to the marginalised and the society is freed of oppressive social institutions, beliefs and practices”.

Objectives of the Ambedkar Study Centre for Social Justice and
Empowerment

The central aim of the Study Centre is to generate awareness and promote the ideas and thoughts of Dr Ambedkar. It envisions encouraging the principles of social justice and empowerment in society, especially among the younger generation of the population, who are the harbinger of change.

  • It aspires to provide an academic environment and space for healthy debate and discussion about the ideals of good life and good society among the participants.
  • It aims to build an efficient discourse on social justice and empowerment. It also intends to assure the holistic development of the students through Dr Ambedkar’s ideals about freedom, equality and justice. The object of the Study Centre is to encourage the students to imbibe and practice the teachings of Dr Ambedkar in their personal lives as a first step towards change.
  • It resolves to give scholarships to the students belonging to the marginalised sections of society, especially the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. It also plans to conduct counselling sessions for the students with respect to higher studies and career.

The Study Centre aims to meet its desired objectives by conducting a variety of activities and programmes at the college, in the university, at the state and national level. The purpose is to enlist the active participation of the student community, academicians, think tanks, social reformers and non-governmental organizations to contribute to the theory building and practical implementation of the ideals of equality, justice and empowerment in the Indian context.
